AI for Video: A Practical Workflow for Business Owners

How to Generate, Edit and Repurpose Video Without a Production Team

Video is the format your audience already expects. The problem has always been the cost of making it: the time, the budget, the technical skill that most small teams do not have on tap. That is the part AI changes.

Why Video Earns Its Place

The case for video sits in audience behaviour, not novelty. Two numbers make it concrete. Landing pages built around video convert at around 65% higher than pages relying on static media. 78% of shoppers prefer short videos when researching a product.

Put those together and you can see where buying decisions are moving. The moment your customer is deciding whether to buy is increasingly a moment they want to spend watching, not reading. For your business, video is no longer a nice-to-have. It is part of how the sale gets won.

The State of AI Video in 2026

The tools have moved fast. Generative models now produce photorealistic clips of up to sixty seconds from a simple text prompt, holding characters and physics steady across a scene. Google's Gemini Omni Flash, announced in May 2026, builds video from any mix of text, images, audio and video, and takes editing instructions in plain language.

Runway Gen-4 gives frame-level control through motion brushes and style transfer. HeyGen produces realistic presenter avatars across more than 175 languages.

While the progress is real, the limits are worth naming. Models still struggle with complex human interaction, subtle emotion and long-form narrative. Rendering is demanding on both time and credits. The honest summary is, this generation of tools is strongest for short-form content, concept visualisation and prototypes, and weakest wherever sustained human nuance is required.

Three Key Areas

AI video can be broken into three key areas, each matched to a stage of production:

Generative tools (Gemini Omni, Runway Gen-4, Synthesia) create fresh content from prompts. They suit work that starts from nothing.

Editing and enhancement tools (Descript, Adobe Studio Sound) refine footage you already have. Noise reduction, gaze correction, clean-up.

Repurposing tools (Opus Clip) analyse long videos, pull out the strongest moments and reformat them for each platform.

The rule is simple: match the tool to the stage. Generative when you are starting from scratch. Editing when footage exists and needs polish. Repurposing when one long video can become many short ones.

Gemini Omni: Text to Finished Edit

Gemini Omni combines images, audio, video and text to generate video grounded in real-world knowledge, then lets you refine it through conversation. Each plain-language instruction builds on the last, with characters and physics held steady across edits. Every output carries an imperceptible SynthID watermark, which supports provenance and honest disclosure. You will find it in the Gemini app and YouTube Shorts.

Output quality comes down to the prompt. A strong one follows a four-part structure:

  • Subject and action: who is in the scene and what they are doing

  • Setting and camera: the environment and how the camera moves

  • Lighting and style: mood, colour palette and aesthetic

  • Progressive refinement: layer detail logically, and use a tool such as ChatGPT to draft a fuller prompt first

The full prompt demonstrated in the session, written for Dharana Digital's own brand, is too long to sit inside this post. We have put it in a separate document so you can copy and adapt it directly.

Descript: Edit Video Like a Document

Descript treats your video as text. Cut, copy or paste words in the transcript and the footage updates to match. The features that save the most time are the unglamorous ones: filler words stripped automatically, background noise removed and voice enhanced in one click through Studio Sound, weak retakes deleted, and gaze corrected so a speaker appears to look straight into the camera (useful for testimonials). Working across markets? Translation with voice cloning produces multilingual versions of the same recording.

Opus Clip: One Long Video Into Many

Opus Clip is built for repurposing. It transcribes audio in more than forty languages, scores each suggested clip for likely social performance, keeps the active speaker centred in frame, and writes hooks designed to hold attention in the first few seconds. Finished clips schedule straight to TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels. One caution: pricing is per minute of input, so the cost climbs if you are processing a lot of footage.

What to Try This Week

  • Write one Gemini Omni prompt for your brand using the subject, action and setting structure (start from the demo prompt in the linked document)

  • Run one existing recording through Descript to strip filler words and apply Studio Sound

  • Take one long video you already have and let Opus Clip cut it into short vertical clips

Start small. Trust the workflow. Layer in more tools once the first one is saving you time.

Where AI Does Not Replace You

One principle runs through all of this: human-led, AI-assisted. AI is strong at the repetitive, mechanical parts of production and weak at the parts that carry meaning. The work stays yours in the places that count:

  • Plan before you generate. The narrative, the message and the prompt are decided by you, not the model.

  • Work to the tools' strengths. Generative clips cap at around sixty seconds, so longer stories are built by stitching shorter ones together.

  • Keep quality control human. Check every output for factual accuracy, continuity and ethics, then refine tone and pacing by hand.

  • Watch the cost. Learn each tool's credit or token system and rendering times, and remember that repurposing tools often charge by input length.

Use AI to do the heavy lifting. Use your judgement to make the call.

Your Next Step

What is the one video you have been putting off because it felt too hard to produce? These tools take that excuse away.

The next free webinar in the series, AI for Email, runs at 4pm on Monday 27 July.
